The SU-152 "Taran" was a proposed Soviet self-propelled gun project. It was based on the chassis of the Object 152 (which was itself a prototype for the IS-6 heavy tank) and intended to mount a powerful 152mm gun.
The primary goal was to create a highly mobile and heavily armored assault gun capable of breaching heavily fortified enemy positions. The project was initiated in 1944, aiming to improve upon existing heavy self-propelled guns.
The "Taran" project was never fully realized. While designs were developed, a functional prototype was never constructed. The program was eventually canceled due to several factors, including the end of World War II and the emergence of more advanced tank and anti-tank technology. Other designs like the ISU-152 were deemed sufficient for the roles initially envisioned for the "Taran".
